Experts in fire protection

From analysis to approval –
everything from a single source

Minimax supports operators in switching to fluorine-free foam extinguishing systems – from PFAS inventory analysis to planning and implementation to VdS-compliant approval.

New requirements due to PFAS ban

Fluorinated foam extinguishing agents (AFFF, AFFF-AR) are facing extinction due to EU-wide PFAS regulations. Operators of stationary foam extinguishing systems are obliged to check existing systems and, if necessary, switch to fluorine-free extinguishing agents as soon as possible.

Why there is no straightforward replacement:

Physics:

Fluorine-free foam extinguishing agents are more viscous than conventional fluorinated foam extinguishing agents. Proportioning systems, nozzles, or pipes may need to be adapted to ensure reliable operation.

Extinguishing effect:

Fluorine-free foam extinguishing agents do not form a water film. Firefighting is mainly achieved through higher foam stability, foaming, and foam blanket. It is therefore necessary to adapt the existing extinguishing system to the foam extinguishing agent.

Minimax offers a comprehensive concept: PFAS inventory analysis, recommendation of suitable F3 foam extinguishing agents, implementation of modernization, documentation, and VdS-compliant acceptance.

PFAS residues in existing systems

It is often impossible to determine conclusively whether the respective foam extinguishing agents comply with the applicable PFAS limits solely on the basis of the manufacturer's specifications and the foam used. Substances such as PFOA can be detected in tanks, pipes, and fittings years later – even after cleaning

These residues can recontaminate new F3 foam extinguishing agents – with consequences for the environment, liability, and operational safety.

The solution: Laboratory analysis for PFAS provides clear facts.

PFAS analysis: clean or retrofit?

Only a laboratory analysis can show whether cleaning is sufficient or a system retrofit is advisable. Minimax offers sampling, evaluation, and a clear basis for decision-making – for sustainable and economic safety.

Advantages of fluorine-free foam extinguishing systems

  • Environmentally compliant: Meeting current and future PFAS regulations and supporting sustainable plant operation
  • Safe operation: VdS-conforming conversion and reliable continued operation of your plant – legally compliant and liability-proof
  • Risk minimization: Reduction of environmental, liability, and operational risks – no danger from PFAS residues or refusal of liability coverage
  • Future-proof: Use of modern, fluorine-free, and approved F3 foam extinguishing agents with tested extinguishing performance and guaranteed availability

Frequently asked questions about switching to fluorine-free extinguishing systems

  • Do I have to convert my existing foam extinguishing system immediately?
The requirements depend on the currently applicable regulations and the condition of your system. A PFAS analysis will clarify which actions need to be taken. We are happy to advise you on scheduling.

  • How long does a conversion take?
The duration varies depending on the size and complexity of the system. After the analysis, we will draw up a detailed schedule for your project.

  • Are fluorine-free foam extinguishing systems just as effective as conventional systems?
Yes – modern fluorine-free foam extinguishing agents (F3) offer the same extinguishing performance and protection as conventional fluorine-containing foam extinguishing agents. However, to ensure this performance, adjustments or modifications may be necessary to existing systems—for example, to the proportioning system, nozzle technology, or application rate. After our professional conversion, the system will work just as reliably and effectively as before.

  • What will happen to my existing fluorinated foam extinguishing system?
When converting, Minimax coordinates the professional disposal of the fluorinated foam extinguishing agent and, if necessary, the affected system components. The actual cleaning and disposal is carried out by qualified specialist companies. This way, we ensure that all legal requirements and environmental regulations are fully complied with and that you, as the operator, can move forward in a legally compliant manner.

  • Are there fluorine-free solutions for all areas of application?
Modern F3 technology covers all classic areas of application. Our experts examine the optimal solution for your specific application and develop tailor-made concepts.

  • Are there differences in the maintenance of fluorine-free extinguishing systems?
The maintenance intervals and requirements are comparable to your previous system. Our qualified service technicians support you worldwide with proven maintenance concepts.
