Challenge

Porous hoses may become a risk. This particularly applies to hoses in gas extinguishing systems.

Hoses in gas extinguishing systems connect the extinguishing agent cylinders to the pipe network. Their stability is a basic prerequisite for functionality.

Like all hoses, those of gas extinguishing systems - even under appropriate storage conditions and at allowable stress - are subject to a natural aging process, by which the physical properties of hoses can change. The result can be a danger to persons or a poor functionality of the gas extinguishing system if hoses burst after activation of the gas extinguishing system.

Solution

Ideally, the hoses and hose fittings are checked as part of routine inspections or after triggering the gas extinguishing system. According to DIN 20066, duration of use (incl. storage time), even at acceptable loads, is limited to six years, when the hoses or hose fittings must be replaced. Increased loads, e.g. via environmental influences, require an exchange even earlier, as hoses can become deformed or slip from the fitting.

Therefore have your hoses regularly checked. This ensures not only the functionality and thus the operating safety of your extinguishing system - in case of doubt you are preventing far worse consequences, such as injury to persons.

By adhering to the guidelines you are also meeting your duty as an operator and duty of care.

Scope of service

  • Decommissioning and locking the cylinder battery
  • Shutting down the gas extinguishing system and locking the cylinder bank
  • Dismantling the existing old hoses
  • Adaptation of the new pressure hoses to local conditions
  • Installation of the hoses and recommissioning of the cylinder bank
  • Testing of the extinguishing system functionality
  • Amendment of the existing documentation and installation papers, if necessary
