New requirements for foam extinguishing technology

The transition to PFAS-free foam extinguishing agents is fundamentally changing the requirements for proportioning technology. Fluorine-free foams exhibit a wide range of flow properties and can be highly viscous or structurally viscous, depending on the product. Here, conventional proportioning systems often reach their limits.

eProp was developed specifically to meet these requirements. The system enables high- precision proportioning of water-like, highly viscous and structurally viscous foam extinguishing agents and ensures a stable proportioning rate even with fluctuating back pressure, temperature and viscosity.

eProp is VdS-approved

Six reasons for eProp

  • For PFAS-free foams
Developed for foam extinguishing agents ranging from low to high viscosity.

  • Precise proportioning
Stable proportioning rates even with changing viscosity, temperature and fluctuating back pressure.

  • Testing without consumption
Functional testing without consuming foam extinguishing agent and without interfering with system operation

  • High performance
High airflow rates without additional pressure loss in the extinguishing water line.

  • Flexible integration
Free positioning components for both new and existing fire protection systems.

  • VdS-approved
Tested for water-like, highly viscous and thixotropic agents.

Why conventional proportioning systems reach their limits with PFAS-free foams

  • High viscosity: Complicates dispensing and dosing
  • Structural viscosity: Changing flow properties during dispensing
  • Pressure fluctuation: Potential for unstable proportioning rates
  • Temperature changes: Impact on flow properties
  • Diverse foam extinguishing agents: Changing requirements for proportioning

Challenges for operators

Retrofitting to PFAS-free foam extinguishing agents
The ban on PFAS-containing extinguishing agents requires the retrofitting of existing systems. Fluorine-free foam extinguishing agents frequently exhibit different flow properties than conventional foam extinguishing agents.

Different viscosities
F3 foams can be highly viscous or thixotropic. Their properties change as they flow. This significantly increases the requirements for proportioning technology.

Ensuring long-term operational reliability
Insurers and operators expect a consistent fire-extinguishing performance. The proportioning process must function reliably even under varying conditions.

Integration into existing systems
Many operators want to continue using their existing infrastructure. New systems must be able to be integrated flexibly.

How eProp works

eProp was specifically designed for highly viscous PFAS-free foam extinguishing agents

Precise dosing

eProp continuously measures the water flow rate and precisely meters the required amount of foam concentrate into the extinguishing water stream. The mixing ratio can be continuously adjusted between 1% and 6%.

Stable proportioning rate

Even with fluctuating back pressure, temperature changes and varying viscosities. The proportioning rate remains stable and ensures a reliable foam generation.

Flexible integration

Free positioning of components enables flexible integration for both new and existing fire protection systems.

Flexible system design for every requirement

  • For water-like, highly viscous and structural viscous foam extinguishing agents
  • For water flow rates from small to very large
  • For new and existinging fire protection systems
  • Integration without extensive remodeling
